In 2002, the “Shark With a Heart ” was purchased by the firm, then known as “Schlepphorst & Emede, P.C.” When Julie Emede became a judge the Shark remained with Kathryn. The Shark was part of an art exhibit sponsored by the San Jose Downtown Association, whose goals were twofold; bring people downtown and help local charities. The charities received 70 percent of the proceeds. The Sharks were staged in a variety of places throughout downtown San Jose.

The artist who made the Shark With a Heart is Martha Stephens. Ms. Stephens is an acclaimed artist who is also an interior designer. The Shark With a Heart was located for viewing on top of Faber’s Bicycle Shop before being auctioned off. It was donated by Homer P. Stephens family and the proceeds went to the Alum Rock Counseling Center in San Jose. The Shark suits our firm well, as we consider ourselves attorneys who handle family matters with a Heart.
